De Soto tragedy ends in murder suicide
Clayton Slaughter of Leadwood shot and killed his wife at De Soto on Thursday morning, then killed himself with a shot to the breast. Mrs Slaughter, daughter of John Terrell of Irondale, had separated from him over ill treatment and was working in a De Soto hotel to support herself. Slaughter had threatened her return and lured her to a boarding house for a talk before shooting. He left a letter blaming infidelity, which friends say misstates the facts and attests to Mrs Slaughter’s good character. Slaughter’s parents live in Advance, Missouri.
