City manager John Bohenko says a change to the state retirement law could cost Seacoast towns millions or bankrupt them. He cites a formula using average base pay times 125 percent and surcharges on pension excess beyond that. Dianna Fogarty notes eight employees plan to retire soon.
About 40 public works employees gathered at City Hall Monday evening to protest alleged contract violations. Clad in green AFSCME 93 shirts, they carried signs saying Save our jobs and Promote from within. Ken Fanjoy, vice president of the local union and a heavy equipment operator, spoke at the event.
World War II veterans joined crowds as four bombers and fighters from the Collings Foundation arrived for a three day Wings of Freedom display. Hampton Falls resident Alexander Wilson, 94, recalled being shot three times in Normandy and across his chest and forehead, still holding a bullet and his Purple Heart. Others, including Jean and Jim Nolan, recounted his narrow survival and honors.

Kori Low of Portsmouth High School recalls her friend Will Berky, who died at 16, as a great guy. She is organizing a fundraiser concert at Newington Town Hall to buy a granite bench for the Plains ball field. Tickets are five dollars at the door, free for children under five.
