Sidewalk Collapse Kills One Injures Two Hundred In New York Parade
A temporary sidewalk on 5th avenue at 18th street collapsed during a Rochambeau commission parade injuring about two hundred spectators. Elvin L. Coolidge, circulation manager of the New York Commercial, was killed. Rescue parties and police quickly organized aid as troops helped evacuate the crowd. Coolidge was born in Natick Massachusetts and educated at Westford Academy.
