Bank Safe Blown in Berwick Overnight
In South Berwick Maine the safes of the South Berwick National Bank and Savings Bank were blown by powder at about two this morning. The outer door was shattered but the inner door held. three men did the job and were seen by Fred Nason and a local woman. Nason was gagged and tied to a telegraph pole until freed by nearby citizens. The burglars fled as streets were dark due to no street lighting. A line mixed with terminal wires caused a fire that burned out a dynamo and started other fires. Also noted is the University of Mikoe annual field meet with records at 120 yards hurdles and shot put, and Portland barber shops planning Memorial Day closures.
