York voters approve school budget and land purchase
York Maine residents backed a 5.8 million school budget at York High School and approved buying six acres on Long Sands Road for a municipal facility. A 65 000 mosquito control fund was created and funds will extend York Public Library hours. Incumbents Marshall and Macdonald Jr. led the Board of Selectmen by solid margins.

AIDS Candlelight Memorial Honors Those Lost to HIV
A candlelight memorial at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Portsmouth remembered HIV/AIDS victims including Karen M a married 50 year old who died February 7 after contracting HIV from her husband. Stefanie Crystal of AIDS Response Seacoast spoke at the event part of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial. ARS board member Levey Saintis urged a cure for the disease and its stigma. Ann Spinney, diagnosed with AIDS in 1988, received the Candlelight Award for her work with ARS.

York voters approved a compromise animal-control update to restrict dogs on town beaches this summer. From May 20 to September 20 dogs are banned except dawn to 8 am and after 6 pm to dawn on a leash. mornings may allow off leash with voice control and leash in hand. Fines apply for not picking up waste or not carrying a bag.

Funnel cloud topples truck on Interstate 95
Two Maine men escaped injury when a funnel cloud forced a northbound 1997 Ford F-150 onto its side on Interstate 95 near Taylor River in Hampton Falls. After stopping in the breakdown lane они reentered the vehicle as a gust toppled it, tossing the truck about 50 feet.
