Fire Raged Through Auburn Maine Wrecking 240 Homes
A massive fire in New Auburn Auburn Maine yesterday left 240 buildings destroyed and more than 1.5 thousand people homeless. National Guard officers patrolled the debris filled streets as displaced families sought shelter with kin or relief agencies. Fire started in Pontriand's garage driven by strong winds, torching tenements and nearby schools including Wilson and St. Louis. Fire aid flowed from Portland Augusta Rumford Norway and Gardiner though low water pressure hindered efforts.
