A murder trial features sex tapes as evidence while a man dies two days after falling ill at a City Council meeting. The mayor praises late Harold Ecker in remarks at the session.
In Kittery Maine the belfry of the 140 year old St Mark's United Methodist Church on Government Street was lifted by a crane. The bell and steeple will be removed due to structural concerns and the church will retain a modern roof. Parishioners say the move was painful but necessary to move toward the 21st century. Neighbor Susan Tuve son laments the loss and notes potential historic designation.
A woman recalled a Tuesday conversation with a friend at Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth about the St. Mark's belfry. The belfry stands as a landmark and a well known part of the area’s history.
The United Way of the Greater Seacoast drew about 800 volunteers from 30 area businesses to assist 43 nonprofit agencies. Spokeswoman Liza Dube praised the event, noting volunteers enjoyed contributing to public service. The spring Day of Caring follows 17 years of a fall program, with groups of up to 20 assisting locally. For donations of time, contact United Way or Great Bay Services via provided numbers.
Three nuclear power plant security officers were involved in separate accidental shootings over the past nine months, including an off duty Seabrook Station guard who shot his hand with a 9 mm round. Police say he faces charges as he undergoes medical recovery and reconstructive surgery is planned.
