A grand banquet followed the opening of the New Hampton Bridge. Local officials and residents gathered for the ceremony at Whittier's, celebrating the new crossing that connects the town.
A mile long bridge at the mouth of the Hampton river linking York Beach to Boston was opened to traffic on Wednesday afternoon. Gov. Cor. Ches ter B. Jordan led the first car with staff, Wallace D. Lovell and other dignitaries aboard. A large gathering enjoyed a banquet with oysters to lobster salad and Neapolitan ice cream, while speeches were omitted.
The Lovall Electric Railroad company built the new bridge on the direct line of New Hampshire’s orvan boulevard. It spans 4523 feet, 30 feet wide, costing a substantial sum, and marks a major milestone in the state’s bridge and road system as work on the boulevard proceeds toward completion. Gov. Chester B. Jordan led the day with brief, witty remarks, praising engineer Hood and Lovell while other officials and a large crowd gathered for speeches and celebrations.
Invited guests fill the Exeter Whittier dining hall then ride five miles to the bridge site. A band plays on the leading car while officials, neighbors, and News staff gather along the Seabrook end platform. An estimated crowd of five to six thousand watches the ceremony.

Seattle May 14 The Trans-Siberian railway is nearly complete with only a tunnel of one and a half miles unfinished and is expected to open for general traffic late this year. George Janson, longtime construction engineer on the project, arrived from the far east and plans to return to St Petersburg, his home, after years away.
Washington May 14 It is learned at the navy department that Admiral Coghlan will be second in command on the North Atlantic station and his successor as captain of the yard at New York will be Cap Harrington who has been detached from the Portsmouth navy yard.
Chicago reports 17000 children under sixteen were arrested last year and jailed in police stations for minor offenses. Mayor Harrison ordered immediate stop after Supt Nadine cited the law prohibiting detention of under twelve in police stations or confinement of under sixteen with adults in the same building.
Washington May 14 Rear Admiral J B Coghlan has been detached from duty as captain of the yard at New York and ordered to Washington for special duty He has his choice of the League Island navy yard or second in command of the North Atlantic squadron but has not yet indicated his selection

Thomas Dwyer was arrested Wednesday after a complaint by Superintendent H C Morrison alleging his children have repeatedly stayed home from school against city law. He posted bonds for appearance in police court this morning and was released.
