By Associated Press Peiping May 10 reliable foreign reports say Japanese forces crossed the Lwan River pushing Chinese defenses toward Peiping and Tientsin. Japan claims to have set the Swan east banks as operation limits from the coast. About 2500 American residents in Peiping and Tientsin show calm as the war nears Anshan. Japanese reports say they crossed Lwan north of Lwanchow near Tsienan and Funing with hard fighting near Anshan. About 600 Chinese were killed in the capture of Tsienan. Japanese planes bomb Miyun 35 miles north of Peiping. Chinese northern army generals met to discuss the crisis. Foreign residents fear possible occupation of Peiping and Tientsin by the invaders.

Tornado Disaster Claims Dozens in Tennessee
Livingston Tennessee May 10 Several score persons were reported killed by a tornado that swept parts of Overton county around midnight. Local attorney Co. Gore said 26 perished in Beaty Swamps about 10 miles from Livingston and heavy loss of life was also reported from Bethsaida on the Overton Fickett county line.
