The New Hampshire Audubon Society offers prizes to youths 12 to 17 and under 12 for bird observation essays. Awards include 10 and 5 dollars for top and second place in each age group. Essays must be original, based on real observations, and describe birds' nature, habits, and uses, with accuracy and detail valued.
Any child living in New Hampshire within the ages specified may compete for prizes. Compositions must be sent before Nov 1, 1900, to secretary Mr W Batchelder of the New Hampshire Audubon Society in Manchester. Entries may use fictitious names, but real name and address must be sent to the secretary for record and prize handling.
East Rockingham Pomona grange hosts a joint meeting with Newington grange on May 16. The morning session opens at 10 49 am with business and fifth degree work, followed by noon dinner. The 2 pm public afternoon session features Prof Ned Dearborn on Our Common Birds and Joseph D Roberts on Profitable Farming, plus more speakers and an open discussion on co operation in the gate of farm products.
