Waterfront facility funds urged for Portsmouth Naval Shipyard
A House Armed Services subcommittee voted to restore 1.6 million dollars for a waterfront support facility at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine. Congressman David Emery said the Appropriations Committee may include the 1979 Defense Budget, after the Navy asked for funding but the OMB rejected it. If approved, the facility would boost efficiency between engineering and machine shops by about 25 percent and be ready for overhaul work on the new Los Angeles class submarines.
