President Carter, nearing the end of a four state Western tour, says the trip is a success and he is not a political handicap to campaigning Democrats. He voiced the assessment at a Portland regional news conference before a Spokane stop, after visits to Colorado and California.

Investigators search for identity of a middle aged man whose body was found Thursday night in Moose Hill Pond Livermore Falls Maine by two boys. An autopsy by Dr Henry Ryan found no conclusive cause of death and said the man had been dead for at least several weeks, possibly longer.
A groundbreaking ceremony for Brentwood’s first town office building is set for May 6 at 1 p.m. on Dalton Road. Volunteers will supply all labor and materials, with pine timber cut from the site to fund the project, overseen by the Conservation Commission as the town forest surrounds the new facility.
