Associated Press reports multiple clashes between police and Communists in Berlin on May 1. Over 300 arrests. Communists formed a parade after meetings, crowds resisted, stones and bottles hurled, and police fired shots as the crowd dispersed. several protesters reported wounded.
Three explosions rocked Chicago on May 1 as a bombing syndicate carried out precise blasts at the doors of northwest side saloons. The first occurred at 1 30 a.m., the second at 3 10 a.m., and the third at 3 12 a.m., causing 1500 in damage to a soft drink parlor and surrounding area.
The carpenters and joiners of Local Union 921 demand a $1.00 per day raise to $9.00 but masters refuse due to business conditions. Carpenters have declared a strike to press the increase, while master builders state they will not pay more if the public declines to hire at the higher rate. Signatories include R P Bridle and others from various contracting trades.

Hanover May 1 Captain Harry W. Lyon Jr navigator of the Southern Cross trans-Pacific flight announced plans for a July 4 transatlantic trip from Los Angeles to New York to London and back with two companions Mrs Keith Miller of Southern Cross Australia and Bill Lancaster of Nottingham England both fliers. The three will fly a three motor land cabin plane under construction at Pasadena California with a 94 foot wingspan. George Hackethorne a Pasadena broker backs the project.
Searchers led by Lieut Eaton recover Keith Anderson’s body near the crash site while robert Hitchcock’s body lies nearby. The two men were among the missing fliers after a forced landing in cross country, with investigators seeking answers to the mystery.
