London reports a possible rupture in diplomatic relations with Britain and Soviet Russia expected today. Six British subjects in Moscow are arrested, and recall of the British ambassador is likely. An embargo on Russian goods may begin when the trade agreement ends April 16. The British govt denies sabotage charges against the 31 employees of Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co. and its Manchester-based contractor.

Golden Eaglet Honors At Portsmouth Girl Scout Rally
The Greater Portsmouth Girl Scouts held their annual rally at the Senior High School auditorium with a large attendance. Golden Eaglet awards were conferred on Sylvia Toennesen of Troop 1 and Dorothea Knott of Troop 2, recognizing merit in scouting. Knott, daughter of the late Lieut. George Knott, was cited for World War II bravery and has been active in Troop 2 since age ten. Toennesen, a longtime Scout since 1928, has held junior lieutenant roles and is active in Troop 1, Kittery Point.

Senate approves 3.05 beer and 3.05 wine in April action
Washington March 17 the Senate backed a House beer bill allowing 3.05 percent alcohol with wine at 3.05 percent and banning sales to those under 16. The measure, likely to be final by early next week, faces House opposition on 3.2 percent and goes to conference. Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt attended briefly as debate framed as prohibition reform.

DeMolay Chapter Elects Officers at Masonic Temple
Portsmouth Chapter Order of DeMolay held its semi annual election at the Masonic Temple on Thursday evening. Master Councilor Coleman W Pearson Senior Councilor Donald G Ross were chosen. Installation set for April. A card tournament and refreshments followed. The newly elected master councilor is the son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Pearson of South Street. Also NH Preceptory of Legion of Honor meets in Concord Saturday evening for Legionnaires and invited guests. Annual conclave planned for Keene in May.

Bodies recovered from yard ice pond tragedy
In a Portsmouth Navy Yard incident two boys Thomas Heffernan nine and John Heffernan seven sons of Chief Pharmacist's Mate and Mrs P I Heffernan were found dead in six feet of water at the yard ice pond shortly before 7 am after an all night search by Marines and yard personnel. The boys had been missing since yesterday afternoon and authorities believe they walked onto the ice as the pond had drained lowering the water level. The family has resided at the yard since May. Aboard a coroner's inquest will be held and the Navy Yard leadership extended sympathy and support to the bereaved family.
