President Carter moves to ask courts to order striking miners back to work under Taft-Hartley as the coal mine walkout threatens deeper energy cuts and mass layoffs. An 80 day cooling-off period may be sought, with miners already wary of obedience.
In Concord New Hampshire Senator Thomas J McIntyre urged Governor Meldrim Thomson to stay home and govern. He challenged Thomson to debate Panama Canal issues if he wishes to run for the U S Senate or continue public campaigns.
