Los Angeles AP reports a Continental Airlines DC-10 failed to gain altitude in a storm at Los Angeles International Airport. No fatalities were initially reported. Emergency response deployed with at least ten ambulances to the scene as officials assess casualties and number of aboard.
In a nervous session the dollar fell under 2 marks as Western Europe dampened sentiment and gold climbed to $184 an ounce in London. Morning quotes show 1.9930 marks per dollar, down from 2.0326. About half of Pease AFB 30 FB-111A bombers are operational again.
