Glenn Race, 45, grocery store owner and former city councilman, was shot by his father-in-law, Harry J. Kirk, 74, who then killed himself. The killings occurred at Race’s home on 1140 South Street, after which Kirk took his own life. Race, active in Masonic and Kiwanis circles, operated the Cabot Street store and left a wife of 18 years. The incident followed no clear motive, with investigators noting mental derangement in Kirk.
Nashua judge has joined Atty. Robert J. Doyle of that city as counsel for Lloyd H. Skillings who is held in connection with thefts from Mrs. Saran A. Rollins, a Somersworth widow. Judge Bolic A. Degasis arrived to take depositions. Skillings earlier had Atty. Samuel Levy of Portsmouth who withdrew.

WN H Rep Chester E Merrow told The Portsmouth Herald the federal government approved construction of an access road from naval base Gate No 1 in Wallingford square along Walker Street to Route 11 about a half mile. The Army chief of transportation has considered the matter, and State Sen William E Dennett of Kittery hopes the road might be extended to the interstate highway by the Maine State Highway Commission.
U S Rep Robert Hale of Portland protests moving the supply demand control point from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard to Philadelphia. He warns it will increase unemployment in the Kittery area amid Maine jobs shortages and plans to sign a congressional letter to Navy Secretary Dan Kimball opposing the move.
Ohio Senator Taft trails Eisenhower by 10 percent or less in New Hampshire polls as backers fear a weak showing from the general. Editors of eight AP papers report Taft close behind, with Eisenhower’s supporters projecting a last chance before the March 11 primary to prove the front runner’s appeal.
Washington AP reports the Truman administration will oppose any cuts to a 7.9 billion dollar foreign aid program. Secretary of State Acheson urged national support and called the aid essential to Western Europe defense. He outlined talks in London and Lisbon with foreign ministers and the NATO council, noting progress but many tasks remain before troops and matériel can be ready.

Clippers will be honored at a Champions reception in Market Square tonight after the finals of the 30th annual Interscholastic tournament in Durham.
