A switch failure on a Portsmouth East Manchester line endangered the 10 o'clock Manchester train. Shifter 383 Conductor C J Joenness discovered a loose nut on the upper switch bar. A car toppled but a wrecking crew freed the vehicle and repaired the switch, delaying the 6 02 train fifteen minutes.
Island of St Helena June 27. The first consignment of Boer prisoners, 478 men, sailed for South Africa after taking the oath of allegiance to Great Britain. They marched to the transport singing the national anthem.

Judge W. J. Nasan and Dwight Hall have been employed as defense counsel for Martin Albert Glass, charged with killing his brother George and assaulting his mother Mary Glass. A preliminary hearing is set for Monday, July 7, with defense likely to argue insanity.
