Exeter Prepares 300th Anniversary Pageant for July

Exeter plans a 300th anniversary celebration highlighted by a large historical pageant in Philips Exeter Academy stadium on July 1, 2 and 4 at 8 43 p.m. A cast of 500 will perform episodes of the town’s founding by John Wheelwright aided by professional coaches. A great stage, scenic effects, and flood lights will create the pageant background. The program recalls Squamscott River fishing grounds and Isaderahin and Wehanownawit chiefs. Unitarian Sessions At Star Island Open June 25

Chicopee Falls Man Sought After Womans Murder

Police hunt Charles Wajda after Katharine Wajda 43 was shot at her Chicopee Falls home. A rifle blast killed her as she answered the door about 10:25 p.m. and state troopers and local officers scoured surrounding areas for the estranged husband.

Harold Dow of Eliot won the Republican nomination for the Maine House of Representatives from Kittery and Eliot. He defeated Albert Staples by 462 to 280 overall, with Kittery 195 to 115 and Eliot 267 to 165 in the primary. Government ruling allows limited city fire dept posts

The Civil Service Commission informed Rear Admiral Cole that permanent and temporary federal employees may hold small salaried positions in municipal fire departments so long as it does not conflict with federal duties. Chief George Cogan of Portsmouth Fire Department was notified of the ruling.

Portland stenographer charged with assault in city case

In Portland, Percy C. Small, 36, a stenographer and electrician, was held on bail after police charged him with assault and criminal assault in connection with an incident Sunday near Stroudwater. A woman identified him in a lineup and described being forced into a car at gunpoint, then attacked. Small denies the charges.

Rockingham Jury Awards 13000 Dollar Verdict in Hampton Falls Case

The Rockingham Superior Court jury returned two verdicts. The plaintiff, Miss Madeline Knowles, injured when struck by a machine along Lafayette road, received 13000 dollars. Boy Killed By Auto In Street Crash In Claremont

Four year old Herman George Trudeau Jr. of West Lafayette Street died at Claremont General Hospital from injuries after being run over by a car driven by Paul Shackett of 296 Main Street. Officials announced no action will be taken against the driver, deeming the accident unavoidable.

New Hampshire Observes Birth Of Constitution

New Hampshire marked its ratification of the American Constitution on June 21 1788 as the ninth state. A massive parade in Concord attracted about 70000 spectators from across the state and neighboring states. Gov Francis P Murphy led the celebration aided by council members and an extensive pageant committee. The day featured a grand street pageant with floats simulating New Hampshire history from 1623 to the present, staged by Frederick A Gardner and Edward Blungerford with narration by Charles G B Evans and guidance from Mrs. Harry Barron Carpenter. Two More British Ships Sunk By Spanish War Planes

Valencia June 22 AP Two British ships were sunk just outside Valencia harbor by a lone raider in a continuing series of Spanish government attacks on foreign shipping. The Sunion, a 3034 ton freighter, burned for six hours and sank after incendiary and explosive embers. The Thorpness, previously torpedoed, went down with 7000 tons of grain after being shelled in the captain’s cabin. All 32 Sunion crew were saved. one Chinese crew member perished on the Thorpness. The incident raises total airplane attacks on British ships to 54 since the Spanish Civil War began.
