Seven Die in New Hampshire Weekend Toll

Concord NH reports seven violent deaths over the weekend including four motorcycle fatalities, two drownings, and a fatal two truck collision. Notable incidents span Gilford on a National Championship race, a three cycle pileup in New Britain and separate crashes in London Goffstown Enfield and Nashua. Victims include Norman E. Experts urge polio shots in summer season

A group of top polio experts led by U S Surgeon General Leonard Scheele advised continuing antipolio injections through the summer despite rising cases. The panel said the small risk of provoking paralysis is outweighed by epidemic prevention benefits, with cautions to avoid fever signs and households already affected. An advisory committee will meet in Washington to plan fair vaccine distribution.

North Berwick Man Honored by Legion

Clifford Wilson of North Berwick was elected vice commander of the Maine American Legion at the 37th state convention in Augusta. William J. Rogers of Auburn was named state commander, with Edith McEachern of Brewer elected auxiliary president. Other officers include Edith Lufkin of Yarmouth district VP and Fernald E. Anderson, James L. Boyle, John Levinsky, Carl R. Young, and Martin H. Brooks in various posts. Governors Muskie, Rep Nelson, and Ralph Stone spoke at the convention.

Dock Strike Ends In London Ports

London dock workers voted to end a five week walkout that halted shipping in Britain s six largest ports. The decision ends a prolonged strike affecting cargo handling and port operations across the capital.

N H Legion Elects Daley Commander At Dover Meeting

Floyd Daley of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard was elected commander of the New Hampshire American Legion at its 32nd state convention in Dover. John Renzulla of Portsmouth named grand chef de gare of the 40 & 8 in New Hampshire. The Dover event drew nearly 20,000 for a parade with 30 musical units and 3,000 marchers. Awards included the John H. McLin Trophy to the Newmarket post for 166.66 percent membership, the department service trophy to the Newmarket post, and an all expense paid trip to the Miami national convention to Morris Forrest of Portsmouth for membership work.

Adams Fails To Ask Dwinell For Racing Board Job

Concord reports State Sen Benjamin C Adams did not yet request appointment as chairman of the State Racing Commission. Gov Lane Dwinell noted Adams said he would seek the post but was unavailable for a visit. Byron E Redman, current chairman, has offered a verbal resignation to Dwinell and the Executive Council, which is expected to act June 30. Redman’s Rockingham Park steward role may be tied to the resignation. Atty Gen Louis C Wyman ruled the appointment appears illegal due to the track employment ban for state officials earning over 1000 annually. Redman called it a technicality and hopes to take the steward job after resignation is processed.
