William E Ballard Sr 64 former Portsmouth resident died Thursday in a convalescent home after a long illness. Born July 6 188? he moved from Portsmouth to California and then Tucson. Survivors include three sons Courtland Roland and William and three daughters Amy Jackson Gloria Watts and Shirley Ballard with 50 grandchildren. Burial will take place in Tucson.

Seven Area Students to Attend Army Schools

Four Portsmouth area students and three girls from Trasp Academy in Kittery have been accepted for attendance at U.S. Army schools under the Reserved for You program. Dorr R. Dents Robert F. Pooler Richard Grentan and John H. Morang will attend drafting guidance missile radar and Nike missile maintenance courses at Fort Bliss Fort Monmouth and nearby bases. The three girls will study machine counting at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Applications were processed by Army recruiter Frank J. Byron.

Ball Faces 5 to 10 Years in Rape Case After Emotional Hearing
