London AP reports Britain’s 17 day railway strike ended today after talks at the Ministry of Labor. Big Tim Campbell, leader of the nonstriking National Union of Railwaymen, said a settlement has now been reached.

City in the dark over 300 Antworth Acres relocation dispute

A New York regional PHA letter reveals the agency still considers using 300 Wentworth Acres units for relocation. Kittery Sets June 24 Polio Vaccination Clinic

Maine towns move to immunize first and second graders against polio. In Berwick 109 pupils are slated to receive the Salk vaccine today, with another 144 children scheduled for South Berwick tomorrow at the Civic Center gym. Kittery plans a June 24 clinic at Frisbee School auditorium starting 9 a.m. for about 400 students, after a conference with School Superintendent Lorey C. Day. Parents must return updated permission slips by 3 p.m. June 20. Bus service will be arranged, with timetable to be announced next Tuesday.

Portsmouth school system officials plan to hire nine or more teachers at a 7 30 p m Board of Education meeting to bring staffing near full requirements. Superintendent Raymond I Beal notes 45 turnover this year, with many vacancies due to retirements and new posts. He cites nine leaving for other jobs one for studies one for a city transfer one death and 16 for personal reasons. The board will also review committee reports and student insurance policies.
