Gunners in Jordan fired light weapons at an Israeli army patrol near Neve Ur in the Beisan Valley south of the Sea of Galilee, wounding a border guard. The army said the fire was returned.
In Long Beach California three quarters of the Frank E. Evans survivors arrived by air from the Philippines and headed to their homes after receiving leave papers. About two dozen families gathered to greet them as navy buses carried others away.

A 13 year old Greenland girl missing since last night was found safe and unharmed by a Conservation Officer near Tuttle's Lane after volunteers and authorities searched from evening until morning. The girl had returned home from school and briefly visited a neighbor before wandering back through woods. she was emotionally upset by a family quarrel and was put to bed with a sedative after returning home.

In Parkersburg West Virginia two youths Roger Bailey 13 and Susan Bailey 15 were held on murder charges in connection with a predawn house fire that killed their father Charles Bailey and the rest of the family. Police said arson was involved and that two persons had admitted setting the fire. the suspects were in the detectives bureau awaiting arraignment.
The Portsmouth School Board meets at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the high school hockey program after last month’s delay on abolishing it.
