Dover court finds Allard guilty of speed in York County

John M. Allard, 25, of South Berwick, pleaded innocent then was found guilty in Southern York District Court of speeding 70 mph in a 45 mph zone on Route 101. Vit tum testified to pursuing him from Depot Road to Route 101, with a Dover stop. Allard said he drove 70 mph but denied higher speeds. Judge Varney fined him 40 dollars and he appealed to the September term of York County Superior Court.

School Department Opens Bids For School Work

Bids for painting and other contracts in rural schools have been received. Companies bid on combustion safety controls at the High School, floor refinishing at the Junior High, and paving at multiple campuses. Several firms submitted bids for interior and exterior painting across High, Junior High, Wentworth, and other schools, with amounts ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Eight firms also bid to furnish various furniture items and a drinking fountain bid was noted. All bids will be reviewed against specifications before contracts are awarded.

Dedication in Kittery Honors Late Chief Philbrick

The Kittery Fire Station will be dedicated to the memory of the late chief Jesse Philbrick in ceremonies Sunday at 10 a.m. Firemen from the area and the public are invited to attend the service at Second Methodist Church at 9 a.m. Philbrick served 48 years with the department and was chief from 1984 to 1957. Arrangements were made by Chief Kenneth O'Sullivan and department members. authorization for the memorial plaque was granted by townspeople in October.

Children's Day Observances At Local Churches

Children's Day will be observed at Second Christian Congregational Church during the 10 a.m. worship service with awards and Bibles presented to the Sunday School children. Stratham Church and Strat ham Community Church also plan services and joint events with awards, activities, and family gatherings including a picnic and pony rides.

Pulpit Exchange Details at Two Churches

The Rev. G. Duncan Moores, pastor of the South Eliot Methodist Church, will be speaker during the Sunday service at First Congregation on the 25th. On the same date the Rev. Ben New will be at South Church, sharing duties with Moores.

Stratham PTA Closes Year With Gifts and Honors

The Stratham PTA drew over 200 to its final session. Retiring teachers Mrs Marian Burwell and Mrs Marguerite Scamman received transistor radios. Mrs Burwell’s room won the attendance banner. Dwight Crown presented a $100 scholarship to Exeter High senior Harry Sawyer.
