Eight people die when a large airplane crashes north of Delavan as reports say a bomber car with three officers and many enlisted men is missing on a flight to Denver from Rantoul Illinois. The incident occurred as Army Air Corps units prepared in the region.
Special to The Heraldy Lawrence dispatch reports six Lawrence men faced Lawrence District Court charges as fugitives from justice after a Seabrook lobster theft. Sheriff Simes Frink and local officials traced suspects, who refused extradition to New Hampshire to answer break in larceny charges tied to a Seabrook car theft. County Solicitor Stephen Wheeler will coordinate with Massachusetts to transport the suspects.
Chiang Kai-Shek urged world powers to honor treaty obligations and aid China with sanctions, arms embargoes, and trade boycotts as Japanese forces bombard Canton and civilians flee from Hankow and other cities. The appeal was issued from Rangkow as refugees flood rail junctions in Henan and other provinces.
London reports Britain tense after a wave of Spanish raids on Anglo French shipping. French Foreign Minister Georges-Bonnet told Britain’s ambassador in Paris that Paris would cooperate on extreme measures. Minin Florida June 19 AP authorities seek accomplices in the kidnap slaying of James Bailey Cash Jr. Federal agents press case as Prentice McCall of Princeton faces trial. J Edgar Hoover says McCall admitted writing three ransom notes and collecting the 10 000 ransom, but he remains silent on the abduction. The boy’s body was found 18 days after the theft as parents prepare to bury their one year old son. Hoover notes investigation will continue and no federal lax is involved. Florida law provides a heavy penalty for ransom kidnaping.
Arthur B. Jenks former Manchester manufacturer outlined a campaign to regain the Congressional seat taken from him by the House after a three hour debate. Alphonse Roy of Manchester NH said his goal was vindication for voters. Roy will serve the remainder of the 75th Congress and was sworn in after the final seating vote.
