W L Skillings 41 a former Somersworth garage operator began a two to five year state prison sentence for stealing 12000 from an elderly widow Mrs Sarah Rollins of Somersworth. Skillings’ lawyer argued the lack of jury stipulation on grand or petty larceny. He was acquitted of three other charges and absolved of an aggravated assault charge involving Miss Ada Cheney.
US Senator Norris Cotton urged speedy Senate and House action on 540000 in federal funds for Portsmouth Harbor and Hampton Beach erosion and rock removal work. He warned the harbor dangers to vessels and the Portsmouth Naval Base and cited a risk of gas and oil hazards along the waterfront.
