Death probe continues into Exeter veteran Hodgen

Police seek to determine cause of death of Howard J Hodgen 37 a World War veteran found wedged at a wharf in Newburyport Massachusetts. State chemist reports Hodgen was intoxicated at death and autopsy shows a fractured skull. Investigators aim to locate witnesses who were with Hodgen before his death and track his activities after leaving Salisbury Beach police station.

Robbins Slain by Millbury Officer in Dark Duel

Homer Robbins a 31 year old escapee was shot by officer Elliott Hairyes after a silent confrontation near Sutton farm. Robbins died in a cellar hole following a gun battle. Hairyes is hospitalized with a bullet wound. Authorities had pursued Robbins since his escape from a hospital and previous assault.

Foul Play Feared in Sanford Man’s Disappearance

Sanford, June 9 Sergeant Leon Pinkham said no trace was found of James King a 33 year old logging contractor of 262 Main Street who vanished Saturday night after going to Waterboro to collect a $10 debt. Police fear foul play and robbery as he often carried money. Mrs King had heard nothing. neighbors noted her absence from home. The King family and 18 logging crew await word as investigators continue the search.

Boston Warehouses Hit by 1600-Worker Strike Call

Union leaders report about 1600 workers across more than a dozen Boston warehouses answered a strike call today seeking roughly a 50 percent wage increase. At Quincy Market cold storage plant, about a hundred workers stood idle, crippling the vast food storage facility though foremen and remaining staff hoped to avert total paralysis.

Portsmouth Residents Injured in Dover Car Collision

Two Portsmouth residents were treated for injuries after a collision of two automobiles on Central Avenue Dover. William Roy of 24 Young Street and Armand Lamontague of 21 Brewster Street Portsmouth drove the cars. James McDonald Hazel Dutton, both of Portsmouth, suffered minor cuts and bruises. Ann and Minnie Mitrock and Ann Cozy, passengers in the Lamontague car, were uninjured.

Youth dies after auto crash on Lafayette road

Merrimack high school athlete Frederick Bailey age 18 died at Exeter hospital after a wreck on Lafayette road near the Hampton North Hampton line. Car driven by Ronald Sarasin left with serious injuries. other Merrimack occupants survived with injuries.

Former N. H. Minister 91 Years Old Today

The Rev. Dr. Lewis Malvern of South Peabody Massachusetts Baptist minister ordained in Bristol New Hampshire celebrated his 91st birthday. A native of Cheltenham England he came to the United States in 1871 and retired twenty years ago. During his ministry he officiated at over one thousand weddings and attended more than two thousand funerals.
