Ford and UAW reach historic guaranteed wage agreement
Detroit AP Ford Motor Co and the CIO United Auto Workers reached a historic guaranteed wage plan and other contract terms. The settlement was set to halt walkouts that idle 68,000 of Ford's 140,000 workers. The package boosts pensions to 241 dollars a month and improves hospital medical benefits. Reuther called it the largest economic package negotiated, and said it could set the pattern for the auto industry. He planned immediate talks with General Motors as GM's contract neared expiration.

UNH Confers 550 Degrees at 89th Commencement
The University of New Hampshire awarded 550 degrees at the 89th commencement in Durham, including four honorary degrees to Gov. Lane Dwinell, Herbert L. Sawyer, Russell S. Thackrey, and George W. Two NH Teens Die In Whitefield Car Crash
In Whitefield two youths died after a head on collision on Route 3 Saturday night. Howard Blood of Gilman Vermont a Navy veteran of the Korean War and Thomas J Delany Jr of Whitefield were killed. Edward McLellan of Dalton was reported in critical condition. State Police said Delany’s car hit a vehicle driven by MacLellan. Blood was in that vehicle. The deaths raise New Hampshire’s 1953 highway toll to 50.

Coast Guard Duck Rescues Four From Capsized Boat Near Rye
Four men from Exeter and Kingston were rescued by Hampton Beach Life Boat Station crews in a 16 foot boat that capsized off Rye Ledge near the Farragut Hotel. They suffered chills but no hospitalizations. The amphibious duck brought them ashore and tow back the damaged craft.
