Geneva June 2 Chile formally notified withdrawal from the League of Nations citing inaction on covenant reform. The decision takes effect two years from today, marking Chile's exit from the international body.

In Exeter municipal court James J. O Connell of Haverhill Massachusetts faced a fugitive from justice warrant for stealing an automobile from Clair Naylor an Exeter Academy instructor on April 23 He pleaded not guilty and was held for Rockingham County Superior Court grand jury in October in 1500 bail Judge Ernest G Templeton The case follows a May 25 Second District Court Amesbury trial for larceny of an automobile with a six month sentence later appealed He was previously held on $1000 on the fugitive warrant and $2000 on the jail sentence appeal guidance
Barnstead June 2 A man found dead in an automobile in Smithfield Rhode Island from carbon monoxide poisoning has been identified as William Wiers of Center Barnstead. Identification came via neighbor and former selectman Harry Seward after an alert Langlois garage employee reported a prior talk about gas fumes. Wiers aged about 69 lived alone since a friend’s death, had despondent habits, borrowed money to bore a hole in the car floor for the exhaust, left a note asking for burial of his dog, and belonged to Crescent Lake Grange and Center Barnstead Congregational Church.
John Barrett aged 19 of Brewster street driven pickup owned by A Manning Stires of Austin street partly demolished after leaving a Maine highway in a secluded Kittery area. He reported a motorcycle cut in, causing a swerve that toppled fence posts and left the truck stranded halfway down an embankment.
Over two million feet of plaster board will be shipped by rail from the National Gypsum Company plant at Freeman's Point to New York. The material is to be used in the construction of the World’s Fair buildings.

J Edgar Hoover, chief of the FBI, assumed control of the James Bailey Cash Jr kidnaping case in Princeton Florida as divers and a large posse continued a rain soaked search. He arrived from Washington and went to the FBI office in Miami pledging to stay several days. Hundreds of men, many armed, were deployed by farm trucks to the search area for the missing five year old victim.
The bread supply collapsed for hundreds of thousands as 85 major bakeries cooled due to a strike by 1400 truck drivers. Inside workers idled, sympathy walkouts loomed, and clashes on highways left two injured as 58 trucking firms formed picket lines. damage included smashed cab windows and sabotaged trucks.
The Class of 1938 at Traip Academy held final chapel exercises in the school auditorium. The program included a processional, scripture reading, and a farewell sermon by Rev. Fredric Olsen. National Honor Society inductees were announced, and class gifts presented by Charles Plaisted Sr. The ode was sung and the recessional concluded the ceremony.
