Evacuation of Pekin Promises to Be Peaceful

A joint statement by Mung Wa ty Peng gul Wen Kio-Shan and a national committee says the withdrawal from Pekin will be peaceful. A provost marshal notes temporary troops will stay in the city during the transition. Other reports warn of possible disturbances as troops withdraw.

Girl killed on Ossipee Trail in Maine crash

Gertrude Radcliffe, 14, daughter of Mr and Mrs William Radcliffe of Andover Mass, died when her father's car left the Ossipee Trail near Center Ossipee Me. The auto overturned on stones. Calby Weeks was bitten by a police dog while helping. Also in the car were Radcliffe's wife and another child Alfred, and John Stephenson of Andover. Marion Andrews of Gorham, Me, was visiting nearby.

Identify Body of Slain Woman in Mass Pit

Milton Massachusetts June 2 Three young women bodies found in a gravel pit with 20 bullet wounds were identified as Mary Mahan of South Boston by her father and two brothers. Police seek a man believed with her yesterday who allegedly threatened her with a revolver. A card bearing the name Frank O Donnell of New York was found, matching the description of Mrs Ross, as relatives note she had recently exchanged notes with Miss Ross, explaining the card.

New Hampshire Academy of Scientists Visit Portsmouth and Navy Yard

The New Hampshire Academy of Scientists met in Hampton Beach and toured Portsmouth historic sites and the Navy Yard on May 23. Members, about 20 strong, were hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and guided by Secretary Richard B. Shelton, visiting the Athenaeum, Ladd House, Public Library, John Paul Jones House, Langley Boardman House, May House, Wentworth-Gardiner House, Point of Graves cemetery, and the Liberty Pole before a naval yard inspection led by Lt-Comm. Guiler and Chief Gunner Granl lana. Mayor F W Hartford welcomed them back for further sightseeing, including Warner House and St. John's Church, Gov. Langdon House, Jacob Wendell House, Haven Park, and the Mark Wentworth Home, before returning to Newcastle.

Discover Body of Seaman Near New Bedford

A seaman aged about 45 to 50 was found dead near New Bedford, Massachusetts. He was discovered by a Coast Guard patrol and taken to Woods Hole, his body covered with heavy black oil. An American flag tattoo was noted on his chest after the collision with the steamer Kershaw yesterday morning.

New Hampshire cities report income tax receipts with Manchester topping at $84,118.83 and Nashua jumping to $94,707.51. Portsmouth rises to $20,012.29, Concord at $69,570.53, Berlin $11,219.34, and numerous towns show varied figures from Dublin to Tilton. Wentworth Location reports the smallest tax at $1.00.

Colonel Stephen Marshall and the Instan Sai Singers of the Salvation Army visited the city this morning to a large crowd. Mayor Hartford and Advisory Board member Matthews Jr. greeted them. A fine program featured Nicol and Nicol Jr. on cornet, Edward Cl leading prayer, Major Waldron speaking, Lt. Howard singing, and Mrs. Sparks leading "Onward Christian Soldiers."

End First Leg of 7788 Mile Hop to Suva

The Southern Cross completed the first leg of a 7788 mile all air route from California to Australia, landing at Wheeler Field Hawaii after 27 hours 28 minutes. Capt. Charlier Tingaford-Smith led a four man crew including James Warner and Lieut. Harry W. Lyon. fuel ran low on approach as the plane prepared for the 3700 mile second leg to Suva Fuji Islands.

Thirteen executives and department heads hosted a surprise luncheon in the company recreation room for James C. Piper of the sales department. A table lamp and electric coffee setter were presented with best wishes for his future happiness. Frank W. Randall made the presentation as Piper thanked the group. The menu included roast beef, mashed potatoes, green peas, fruit salad, rolls, vanilla cream dessert, cake, coffee and clears.

Washington May Play Annapolis Gridiron Pact

Missoula Montana June 2 Stanford negotiations with West Point for a football game may lead to a two year series involving the University of Washington and the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. The talks reportedly cover home games for both schools over the period.
