Salvage work on the submarine Squalus continues in rough seas with weather improving, as divers work to blow out water filled aft compartments and replace water with air. Rear Adm. Cyrus W. Thirteen of 33 survivors joined the crew yesterday to assist on Falcon, after arrival from the rescue mission off Isles of Shoals.

Fire department responded at 9 05 p m to a garage owned by Mills on Marjorie Street near the Chase Home for Children. Entire roof burned with about 830 feet of hose laid to reach the blaze. The cause is unknown though the interior started the fire.
King George and Queen Elizabeth will rest 24 hours atop the Canadian Rockies as 24,000 square miles of national parkland surround glacial expanses. The royal party heads from Vancouver to Jasper before returning toward Ontario with brief visits in Edmonton and Saskatoon and short audiences in towns along the route.

Two youths spending Memorial Day weekend at Hampton Beach navigated rough seas in a 16 foot boat and, after a dangerous trip with high waves five miles southeast of the Isles of Shoals, safely landed at Wallis Sands with aid from the Coast Guard crew from the Hampton Beach station. Roger Doggett of Watertown Massachusetts and a Harvard student were aboard and had briefly venturing to the submarine disaster area.
Barberton Ohio reports a gas explosion ripped through a temporary two story school housing first to fifth graders. Sixty percent admitted to hospital. four seriously hurt including a teacher. Rescue crews worked amid debris as investigators probe basement gas buildup.
Coast Guard crew at Block Island station saved Captain Simon Littlefield from injury as his 32 foot lobster boat Claudia caught fire off Grace Point. Guardsmen launched within minutes, battled flames for ten minutes, and towed Littlefield to safety. damage to the Claudia was about 500 dollars.
State Trooper Kenneth W. Bailey, 30, of Avon and attached to Norwell Barracks, was thrown from his motorcycle when it struck soft sand at a roadside in Rockland, Mass. He suffered head injuries and was taken to a Brockton hospital after first aid from Dr. Dormald W. Peges. A passing motorist found him unconscious.

New York June 1 AP reports the stock market moved backward with leaders conceding fractional points to over two points. Occasional rallies failed to gain momentum as prices slipped near the close. Trading remained slow with about 600000 shares changing hands.
Concord June 1 AP The Exeter and Hampton Electric Company announced a new tariff schedule. The Public Service Commission says the change is estimated to save customers about 20058 dollars.
Washington June 1 AP Democratic and Republican leaders agreed neutrality legislation alone blocks adjournment by July 15. Four major items aside from regular appropriations include corporate tax revision relief for next fiscal year social security amendments and railroad aid. President Roosevelt favored revising neutrality this session but preferred early adjournment.
