Whaleback Lighthouse Offered Free to Agencies
Landmark Whaleback Ledge Lighthouse on a rocky island at Portsmouth Harbor is being offered at no cost under the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act to eligible federal state local and nonprofit groups for preservation recreation or education. The Coast Guard will keep the automated beacon and the deadline to submit letters of interest is August 17. If no eligible entity applies the GSA may auction the 1872 lighthouse.
