String program saved in Portsmouth schools
Portsmouth School District will continue the strings program in elementary and middle schools after reallocating funds within the performing arts budget. The $19,000 needed was cut from a $34.7 million budget, affecting about 55 students in grades 3 through 8 learning violin and cello. The program will start in Grade 4 and be integrated into the instrumental program, with partnerships developing with Portsmouth Music and Arts Center.
