Paris Academy of Music reports a new remedy called bacilline. It is described as a squid made from active plant principles grown in Chile and Colombia. At Rombaix, 84 of 100 consumption patients treated by hypodermic injection and bacilline are on the high road to recovery.
In a cave-in at the Ada mine near Joplin Missouri, January 17, three men were killed, another fatally injured, and several others seriously hurt. The blast caused by premature dynamite blocking the mine entrance led to the disaster.
A Wil liamstown despatch to the Republican states that Dr Henry Hopkins of Kansas City was the unanimous choice of Williams college trustees for president. Hopkins, son of the famed Mark Hopkins, is a Williams graduate and pastored in Kansas City. He is sixty five.

Newport January 17 A jury failed to reach a verdict in the murder case of Mrs Florence Jones against George H Minges. The defense moved for a plea of guilty to second degree murder and the court accepted the change. Briggs faced sentencing to life in Concord as the courtroom heard of a long dispute between Briggs and Jones families over land. Briggs admitted firing at Mrs Jones and at Cleveland Jones before fleeing to Alstead and surrendering.
A telegram from Mexico City reports Caipanzinago in Guerrero hit hard by yesterday's quake. Initial estimates say three hundred dead and many injured as the state capital parish church and numerous houses lie in ruins. Severe damage also reported in Chilapo in Guerrero.
A fire at the Wyoma branch of the Illinois Lever company in Tyun Massachusetts caused about 20000 dollars in losses. The blaze gutted the hair dressing mill, with damage described as extensive though no injuries were reported.
