Open house at the Piscataqua Bank reveals a mahogany main banking room with marble base, heavy iron grilles, and ornate detailing. Visitors admire the vault, guarded by concrete walls, time-locked doors, and automatic burglar alarms, as well as the ladies room, public telephones, and writing facilities.
The Sunday School Institute held yesterday at the Methodist church on Miller avenue was a decided success with many attendees. Walter E. Myers, general secretary of Sunday School Work in Pennsylvania, spoke on the Triangle of Religions of Education, stressing mind heart and conduct. Evening sessions featured devotionals by Rev Tasker and Rev Lake, and remarks on organized adult Bible classes and religious work in various cities.
Arid Navy Yards reports include a case of appendicitis for C. Miller admitted to Wayal Hospital. Harold J. Wilson, formerly of Canada now eastern regional worker of the Advent Christian Church General Conference of America, has accepted the call of the Advent Christian Church of this city to be its pastor and expects to assume duties here early in April.
The Odd Ladies Circle met Friday at Mrs Daniel Mason's Middle street home. Members enjoyed a luncheon of ham, bread, pickles, pies and coffee then worked on four quilts for sale. The next meeting, an all day gathering, will be hosted by Mrs Fannie Birell on Feb. 28 at Elwyn road.
The city will remove the old hose tower at the former fire station on Court Street after repairs. The tower, erected in 1877 under Mayor H. Broughton, served in burying and cleaning fire hose. a smaller tower existed before Mayor Broughton's administration.
The rising corps of nurses at Portsmouth hospital held a pleasant Valentine party Friday evening in the Nurses Home. Decorations showcased attractive handiwork, the program broke during the evening, but refreshments were served and enjoyed by all attendees.

Rescue workers in Cave City report hearing groans from Floyd Collins as they close in on the sand cave where he is trapped. The shaft reaches 38 feet with a rock-filled tunnel, and authorities expect a difficult rescue lasting at least a day. Ed Brenner and others at the shaft say passage is narrow and conditioning risky, with braces and timbering underway to reach Collins.
A fire at the Kansas City Motor Show left a mass of twisted wreckage and charred remains. About 75 motor trucks two airplanes and accessories were destroyed along with a building valued at 660000. Captain John Crane of Katieas, Kansas City’s oldest firefighter died in the blaze.
The Boson and Maine wrecking crew were sent to Hockingham Junction today to repair tracks of a loaded tent car that was damaged when it set off there.
