Relief chief warns more funds needed for relief up to July

Washington December 30 Harry L Hopkins relief administrator said millions more will be required to run emergency relief through July 1 the start of the next fiscal year He estimated 100 million needed for those on relief rolls and extra money for civil works until May 1 to transfer to public works administration total aid already provided includes 700 million for direct relief and 300-400 million for states plus 200 million monthly Civil Works spending Surplus Relief Corp has shipped 114 million pounds of surplus foods since Sept 25 including salt pork butter flour dried apples and beans to feed unemployed workers The note on lawyers came after a officer said a seller would need to hire lawyers to deal with surplus food sales

Alumni Dance Well Attended at Portsmouth High School Reunion

More than 100 alumni gathered at the VFW Home on Parrott Ave for the P. H. S Class of 1039 reunion. Although class size was small, the event welcomed all Portsmouth High School alumni and defied the cold with a lively evening of dancing. Refreshments were served at 10 o'clock as friends reconnected during holiday visits.
