Seized Barges Bring Liquor Haul to New York Harbor
A sea-going barge named Maurice R. Shaw laden with liquor valued at $250,000 was towed by the tug Liveley Shaw into New York harbor by Coast Guard patrol ships Relanes. The barge was seized after being off Burnegai Light last night. Twenty passengers aboard the vessels were questioned by Customs officials. The liquor is believed destined for the New Year holiday trade in this region, one of the largest hauls in years.

Unsuccessful Escape Attempt at Massachusetts Prison
Two prisoners at Massachusetts State Prison tried to flee during recreation. Frank Cebula, 23, injured after a 40 foot jump. Abraham Goldenberg, 23, life term inmate, surrendered after a failed dash. Both had water and iron improvised weapons and hid in a textile shop before fleeing toward the roof. Cebula was knocked unconscious, several teeth knocked out, after a failed jump.

Explosion in Easton post office kills clerk
In Easton Pennsylvania a parcel post explosion at the post office injures five and kills clerk Edward Werkheiser. The blast halts all work as explosive experts and authorities investigate. Five other packages mailed by two youths are checked. Rev P T Stengele witnessed the men leaving five minutes before the blast. Werkheiser reported suspicions that the packages did not contain merchandise as stated before he died.

Tracer fined $100 and costs in liquor case
Samuel Tracer a Coast Guard radio operator was arrested at Hampton and arraigned before Judge John W Perkins fined $100 and costs $15.12 on illegal transportation of liquor. A woman, Mrs Mary W Porter, was charged with illegal possession. Police found 28 pints whisky two quarts rum and five gallons alcohol in the coupe. Porter pleaded guilty and was fined $100 and costs.
