She notes another poor blood drive could jeopardize the month and January is observed as Red Cross Blood Drive Volunteer Month.

Best Western in Portsmouth hosts today from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hannaford’s in Dover runs today from noon to 6 p.m. Applebee’s in Dover holds Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Strafford County Nursing Home in Dover hosts Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
John Edwards, former North Carolina senator and Democratic vice presidential candidate, will announce his 2008 presidential run at Little Harbour School in Portsmouth on Friday. The San Francisco Chronicle reports the move as a long anticipated campaign declaration, signaling his bid to lead the party in the next election.

The Chronicle notes Edwards was expected to announce during a morning visit to New Orleans Ninth Ward, devastated by Hurricane Lee.

Chad Austin’s prison term for armed home invasion kidnapping and related crimes was reduced from 30 to 40 years to 19 to 20 years after Judge Nancy Staffier-Holtz ruled the original sentence used outdated guidance.
