World War II front dispatch reports Von Rundstedt made little progress in 24 hours in the Stavelot sector on the northern flank. Weather hindered Allied air activity as American armor and infantry opened a relief corridor to Bastogne ending a seven day siege.

Raymona Childs, a 46 year old electrician and father of six, died at the Portsmouth navy yard after a portable light struck a wire behind a switchboard, starting a small fire. He was trapped and unable to escape asphyxiation from smoke and fumes. the incident occurred about 1:30 am and he was released at 2:45 am.
Chicago dispatch reports federal officials pressing for seizure of Montgomery Ward and Company properties including plants in six cities as war labor board directives are defied. A Chicago strike by the United Retail Wholesale and Department Store Employes Union formed picket lines near the plant and warehouse with 160 police on duty, amid ongoing labor actions in Detroit Kansas City Baltimore and other Ward plants.
