Valladares summoned the brief prime minister today to a session where the government will decide on domestic policies and whether to extend force to Great Britain in case of an Anglo Italian war in the Mediterranean. Portola hints a dissolution decree by year end may be issued December 30.
Associated Press reports mounting opposition to Laval as debates in the Chamber of Deputies focus on foreign policy and peace prospects with Italy and Ethiopia. Laval’s cabinet clings to power as confidence votes slip from about 25 to 10, raising the possibility of resignation amid criticism of his stance and Geneva talks.
J Edgar Hoover announced Caleb J Milne, 23, who disappeared from a New York apartment on December 14, was said to have staged his own kidnapping as a publicity ruse to help secure a stage job. He was arrested near New York by federal agents and brought to Woodstock, New York, for routine questioning as prosecutors review possible charges.
The senior choir of the Church of the Immaculate Conception will sing on Christmas Day. The music will be repeated during the high mass on Sunday morning at 930 am.

Charles Herbert Davis died at Portsmouth Hospital after a two vehicle collision at Barberry Lane. Harry Ingram, a 30 year old local resident and husband of Ethel Towle, died earlier. The two men, both well known in the city, were the crash victims. The train from Boston struck their coupe shortly after 2 PM. Engineer William Buck and Conductor L S Seavey reported warning whistles prior to impact. A double funeral is planned at Gourt Street Christian Church Monday at 2 PM.
The Golden Rule Circle and Dailey Circle of King’s Daughters prepare a joint celebration in New Castle on January 13 to mark fifty years. A play The Original Ten, based on the first King’s Daughters meeting in New York, will be staged. Refreshments and a gift exchange follow a Christmas party segment with readings and piano. Next meeting set for Union Street at Mrs Louie Tulley’s home.
The 10 17 forenoon alarm from Box 46 reported a grass blaze on the Jones property at Burkett street. Three prior alarms from this box were false.

The Portsmouth navy yard is said to have increased 750 in the various departments and shops during the past year. On Jan 1 the tolls showed 1800, the last tabulation brings the total up to 2550. Lawrence Goss of the Keene Normal school is at the home of his parents in Rye for the holidays.
