By Associated Press Sour Acworth December 24 two men armed held up Grasae proprietor of a Bull and grain station early today stealing $18 in cash and goods worth. The assailants woke Gramio who opened the door.
York residents recall Dec 27 incident after officers halted unloading at Godfrey Cove. A cargo of whiskey was seized and part of the load allegedly dumped, with 150 cases found in two trucks and a floating derelict carrying more. Local rumor says a rum boat lowered cargo to flee shallow waters. shots were heard during the pursuit.
A head-on collision on a road near New Bedford, Massachusetts, injured nine people including Miss Mary Connolly 19 and Miss Laura Liberty 15. Barry Goldberg of Gardiner Maine reported passing another car when his vehicle struck Charles E Winters’ car with Connecticut plates. Vehicles overturned and occupants scattered along the road. Goldberg his wife and three children, Israel Rothschild of Gardiner, and Winters were among the injured.
On January 2 donation day was slated for Friday but arrangements failed to form this year. The Barber Shop at 17 Fleet St will reopen on Monday December 29, offering 35 cent haircuts. Community members are urged to bring staple groceries and goods for the home and gifts for the institution next Friday, and to see how well the effort is carried out.
Bridgewater December 23 William J Broderick 43 of Lincoln Rd Brackton surrendered to police last night. He faces charges of robbery while armed in connection with the Paul Case. He was booked at Woburn police station and later released on bonds of 25 000 posted by five friends.
