In Capstown South Africa a night watchman Henry W Dowd was found dead after a bandit attack at a lab. A truck containing tear gas was seized. driver Timer Mayhew and helper Cheater McCauley were bound. Police patrolled diamond fields as crowds demanded opening more ores or more diggers.
John M. Henry of Milford and Louis Dettosa of New York City were thrown from a motorcycle on the Berlin state highway. Henry died at the scene. Dettosa died later from mortal injuries after the tire blowout caused the crash.
San Bernardino county officials reported the Los Angeles wreck at Heroes left several people severely injured. Railroad officials said spikes were removed from one rail and the angle iron linking ties was unbolted and carried away, pointing to deliberate action by train wreckers.
