Rising Floods Threaten Portland in Six Day West Coast Crisis
Flood waters in six western states have caused more than 40 deaths and millions in damage as Portland Oregon faces its greatest peril. The Willamette River rises above flood stage near the business district and rail routes, with the main seawall nearly breached. Rescue efforts by Navy Army and private crews bring helicopters and supplies to the homeless and injured while ships unload food for thousands.
