Plate Printing Press Promises Stamp Printing Revolution
A new plate printing press by Benjamin Stickney, now Chief Mechanical Expert at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, promises to print postage stamps directly from a roll at about seventy feet per minute with automated perforation and gumming. It would dramatically reduce manual work, storage, and handling, placing stamp production largely in a single machine and potentially saving millions.
