Gordon Hathaway a former Navy rope skipping exhibitor and Exeter school physical education instructor holds a speed record of eight skips in 30 seconds and 1300 jumps without a miss. He has organized rope skipping programs for 48 girls and 101 boys across Exeter schools and inspired student records.

First Sliding Accident Reported In Portsmount

Portsmouth police reported the city’s first sliding accident of the snow season. A four-year-old boy, Eric Cunningham of 48 Whidden Street, was struck by a car on Pleasant Street and taken to Portsmount Hospital. Driver Robert Stewart of 15 Franklin Street said the boy slid from a hill into his path on Meeting House Hill. The child was not seriously injured.

Roosevelt Kin Believed Among 33 Crash Dead

A CNAC C54 Skymaster crashed near Basalt Island ten miles from Hong Kong killing all 33 aboard. Reports said Quentin Roosevelt, grandson of Theodore Roosevelt and CNAC vice president, was aboard, though confirmation varied as rescue efforts recovered 31 bodies and weather hampered details.

Full pardon for Barbara Roberts convict slayer of father

Concord New Hampshire AP. Governor Dale and the executive council granted a full pardon to Barbara Roberts 22 confest slayer of her father at Christmas time two years ago. She served a year of a three to five year sentence for fatally shooting Sylvester Roberts 52 on the Roberts farm Dec 21 1946. Her body was found Sept 1947 after her brothers questioned her. She pled guilty with brother William 16. he was placed in state custody. The pardon is described as in her best interests and she is released from Vermont prison and with relatives.

Fire damages auto shop roof on Market Street

Fire damaged the roof of the Market Street auto parts company at 328 Market Street. Abraham Wolfson of 420 Richards Avenue, the owner, said the blaze began near an overheated chimney and that damage was slight.

The tanker Flying A reported that James B. Garner, 22, of Fowler Kansas, disappeared while on watch. Coast guard and police boat crews searched waters at the harbor entrance near Boston yesterday for Garner.

Truck Crackdown Nets $1,420 in Fines Here

In Portsmouth municipal court today sixteen truckers and three other motor vehicle offenders paid a total of 1,420 in fines and 102.60 in costs as state police and the motor vehicle department intensified their drive against overloading. The Alan Haulage Co. of Brighton Mass. paid 175 plus 6.70 costs, the highest fine. Others include Jenny Manufacturing Co. North Hampton 75 plus 6.70, First National Stores Somerville 75 plus 6.70, George E. Kane Boston 75 plus 4.70, Joseph C. Melvin Camden Me. 100 plus 4.70, and Maine Freightways Portland 100 plus 4.70. An overload charge against Hugh Gallagher Bangor was continued for Jan 6. he also faces a license charge. A sailor at the Portsmouth naval base, George C. Mer, is mentioned.

A Westminster Hotel blaze in downtown Philadelphia killed two guests on the third floor. Niney five escaped. two guests and a firefighter were burned. Names include Charles Mabe and Mrs Madeleine Drost. Fire started around 5 am on the west end.
