Concord, Dec. 21 AP George Higgins Moses 73 former U S Senator from New Hampshire and a prominent Republican leader died last night at his home. He served three terms in the Senate and was president pro tempore for eight years before his 1932 retirement. Known for sharp wit he sparked controversy with fiery remarks including sons of wild tackasses. His widow and son Gordon were with him.
Terrance Mallen 30 of Portsmouth Navy Yard pleaded innocent in municipal court to a manslaughter charge in the death of Thomas Murphy Jr. from injuries suffered in a Biddeford beer parlor brawl. He posted 15000 bail for continued hearing, after Murphy died in a Biddeford hospital Sunday.
President Roosevelt urges 44 state legislatures to promptly plan postwar highway projects under a 3.17 billion three year program. States would provide 1.5 billion on a 30-50 match. federal funds to follow. The measure aims to ease postwar unemployment and designate an inter regional highway network.
