The 66 ton Blanche Ring, owned by Busallaachi Brothers and skippered by Captain John Goughan, was struck by an explosion likely from faulty wiring as it sailed to fishing grounds. Seven crewmen were rescued by the beam trawler Boston College, with Harry Jordan reporting minor injuries. The abandoned schooner presumably sank.

Rescue planes sweep Siberia in hunt for Eielson
Two rescue planes led by Jos Crosson and Harold Bodem set out from Teller Alaska toward North Cape Siberia to locate Carl Ben Eielson and his mechanic Earl Borland. The Hudson River ferry West Point was struck by a railroad lighter off the Weehawken riverbank on December 31. Over 600 passengers were rescued as the ferry listed and flooded midstream. Flames Threaten Griffith Park In Large Brush Fire
In Los Angeles 21 A brush fire burned a hillside in Griffith Park under 30 mph winds. Some residents fled as five hours of efforts by 1060 firefighters fought the blaze.
