Center Ossipee New Hampshire December 18 Harry Hobbs a 28 year old Tamworth truck driver was sentenced to seven and a half to ten years in state prison for manslaughter on four counts stemming from a collision that killed four C C recruits near Center Ossipee. Hobbs pleaded not guilty and avoided the state presenting evidence by his guilty note.

Separately a muddy field slowed a football team as a Willamette University player gained 16 pounds after a game due to mud on his pants.
In Havana on December 19 seven bombs exploded as soldiers and sailors patrolled the streets. One injury reported four persons. a Spaniard among the injured. Authorities blamed labor unrest linked to a new decree affecting half of all workers. Several arrests and property damage noted, with no deaths.
By Associated Press Seattle December reports say gales and heavy rain along the Pacific caused two deaths and damaged four ships and many small craft. Winter cold reached Juneau Alaska while Southern California frost destroyed the winter pea crop. Snow drifts in Idaho blocked 14 autos. Lumber freighter Lesnar struggled off Oregon under coast guard escort toward the Columbia River. Admiral Cole freighter grounded and stranded at Seattle.
The Charles te Wheeler Jr. remained stuck on Desdemona Sands at the Columbia mouth, shattered by the storm, while the Henry D. Whitin docked at Longview. Victims include Richard Billaire, a 50 year old Indian man killed by a falling tree limb near Bellingham, and Nicky Fumar, a 3 year old Filipino child who drowned at Port Angeles.
O. B. Clarke was arrested in Bangor for the Portsmouth police. He allegedly collected money in October in this city posing as an encyclopedia agent and will be brought here for trial on obtaining money under false pretenses.
Storer Relief Corps No. 6 will present a flag to Whipple School on Wednesday at 1 40 p m with patriotic exercises led by instructor Mabel Storer Smith. Christmas programs are planned that afternoon and will also present a flag to the Universalist Church next Sunday morning. The group spreads cheer to the sick and shut-ins during the season.
Paraguay and Bolivia agreed to a ceasefire in the Chaco Boreal until December 31, addressing a conflict that has cost thousands of lives. The pact was announced to the Pan American Conference in Montevideo with Uruguay’s President Terra coordinating. Bolivia’s acceptance was confirmed by Uruguayan foreign minister Mane, while Bolivian president Salamanca had not yet replied.
The State of New Hampshire became owner of the Hampton Bridge after paying 140000 to Old Colony Trust for the Massachusetts Northeastern Street Railway property. Tolls will be reduced to meet bond interest until paid, then crossing will be free. State Treasurer Patten sent the check. Ralph W. Davis arranged the deal in Boston.
