The Portsmouth York Auxiliary Donates 250 pencils marked with the Pledge of Allegiance to York School first and second graders. Donation aided by President Mrs Russell Miller. Meeting in Cape Neddick discussed a Salvation Army Christmas gift and a future teen dance date.
Ernest Thelter plans a year end world tour to study toy making in 15,000 population Swiss townS Croix upper Bavaria Japan Bombay England Denmark Italy Sweden Holland and Spain. He notes women with baskets of ornaments in Bavaria and a colonel’s widow in India crafting beads and dolls. The piece highlights diverse folk methods and evolving toy traditions.
SOUTH BERWICK The Acts and Crafts Department of the Berwick Woman's Club met in the vestry of the Federated Church. They devoted the afternoon to filling early baskets to be distributed to local nursing homes. A luncheon was served by several members. The next meeting will be Jan. 13.
The Wells home hosts York County Salon 568 Eight and Forty as members wrap funds for Denver hospital children and donate to local health initiatives. Gifts, birthday card campaigns, and departmental activities are reported by officers and affiliates. The group votes to recess January and February with a March 20 meeting planned at Mrs. LaPierre’s home.
Mrs Madeline Wilson and Mrs Gladys Greenwood installed officers for the South Berwick World War II Barracks Monday night. New officers include President Mrs Claude Joy of South Berwick secretary treasurer Mrs Lily Murphy of Eliot senior vice president Mrs Carmen Leonard of Eliot chaplain Mrs Florence Locke of South Berwick and guard Mrs Ann Clark of Kittery. A social hour and Christmas party followed with gift exchange.
Fern Rebekahs host visiting officers from the NHS Rebekah Assembly led by Grand Mrs Beulah Cloutier. Mrs Mildred LaFlamme presented a gavel pin, spoke on plans, and delivered greetings. Guests included Edwin D. Young and district officials. Tailoring classes begin January with instructors and venues arranged across North Hampton and surrounding lodges.
Priscilla Chapter of the Eastern Star held a Past Matrons and Patrons Night with Mrs. Priscilla McIntire and Mrs. Eleanor Hill among honored leaders. Gifts were given to the Eastern Star as part of a December ceremony at Masonic Hall Sanford Road. A donation to the Tuberculosis and Health Association was approved during the business session led by Mrs. Violet Rand and presiding officers.
Sou th Berwick veterans and their Auxiliary met at the American Legion Home to install 1985 officers led by Commander Franklin Murphy of Eliot. Installing officers included Berlon Perking and Raymond Wilkinson. Auxiliary officers featured Claude Joy as president and Lucy Murphy as secretary-treasurer. Christmas party followed, with anniversaries noted, and invitations announced for January events and a Worthy Matrons and Patrons Night reenactment.
The Chi Alpha Chin met Tuesday night at Mrs. Priscilla Thyng s home for a Christmas party. Refreshments were served by the host. Attending were Mrs. Patsy Bragdon Mrs. Sandra Coodwin Mrs. Virginia Gray Mire Virginia Harris Mrs. Bessie Hall Mrs. Carol Jenkins Mrs. Pat Menter and Mrs. Helen Randall.
