Mussolini vows Italy will fight to the end for rights

In a Pontinia ceremony Mussolini declares Europe crooked and vows Italy will resist sanctions and fight to the end. He warns against Paris London and Rome diplomacy while praising wartime unity as women donate rings to aid the Fascist cause. The speech ties East Africa actions to a broader civilizational war.

Britain Proposes Naval Equality Pact At Conference

London reports England’s plan for a six year public naval build program and a move to drop talks on equality of fleets. The Japanese delegation will review the proposal with other delegates expected to comment tomorrow or Friday. A January 5 recess was discussed to allow private talks before resuming negotiations.

City Council Sets Date for Ouster Hearing

At a tense meeting the City Council voted to authorize the mayor to hire men and trucks to remove rubbish and ordered a hearing on the removal of street commissioners for next Friday at 8 p m. Mayor Robert Marvin presided with several council members present and others noted as absent.

New York Detectives Probe Kidnapping Case

Three New York detectives rushed from police headquarters to aid in the Milne kidnapping inquiry. A landlady allegedly turned a detective away at the Milne apartment, while Department of Justice officials offered no definite comment as the probe continued.

Williamstown Inn Destroyed in Fire at Site

Williamstown Vermont December 18 The Williamstown Inn the third hotel on the same site to burn in 61 years was destroyed by a blaze of undetermined origin. A Franco British peace plan for Italy and Ethiopia is declared dead after talks involving Eden and League of Nations members. Delegates note Italy’s boycott and question how the burial will be carried out with possible conciliation efforts dismissed. Italian officials say Mussolini may not approve and the Fascist Grand Council has yet to speak.

Army awards contract for 100 attack planes

The War department awarded Northrop Corporation a 2,560,074 contract to supply 100 attack planes and accessories as part of the 1935 36 Army Air Corps program. Planes are all metal low wing monoplanes with retractable gear and Pratt and Whitney engines. Top speed 250 mph cruising 220 mph.
